The Coalition is a collaboration between groups or sectors of a community in which the group retains its identity but all agree to work together toward a common goal of building a safe, healthy drug free community. Coalitions are representative of the community and should consist of members from various sectors: youth, parents, businesses, media, schools, youth serving organization, law enforcement, faith based religious Fraternal Organizations, civics, volunteer groups, healthcare professionals, state or local government and other kinds of organizations involved in reducing substance abuse.in the community. The LPC has also established and strengthen collaboration among its

communities , private nonprofit agencies and Federal, State, local and Tribal Governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.

The LPC also strives to reduce substance abuse among youth , over time, among adults by addressing the factors in a community that can increase the risk of substance abuse by promoting the factors that minimize the risk of abuse and strengthen prevention skills. The LPC has been increasing community collaborations and involvement of community organizations, social groups and individuals within the Coalitions initiatives and activities. The Ledyard Prevention Coalitions goal is to help stop and reduce the use of alcohol, marijuana and prescription drug use among adolescence through education, enforcement and other environmental strategies that will increase youths developmental assets.
